In Alexa Meade’s portraits, she literally paints her subjects.
Instead of painting on canvas (you know, like most people do), Meade paints directly on her subjects and snaps a photo. The effect is what looks like a two-dimensional painting. To explain the optical illusion, she says, “The mask of paint mimics what is directly below it. In this way, I am able to take a three-dimensional scene and make it look like a two-dimensional painting.”
